By the stove there was no counter. All your prep work had to be done either behind you or ON the stove. I hated cooking when we moved in there. Plus it was the same cabinets that were put in when it was bulit in 1967. The Stove was old and there was not a window on it, or even a timer. It was AWEFUL. It also had this weird ab-normal pungent smell in there. I tried Febreeze all the time, it would never go away. Well we found the smell when we ripped it all apart. It was under the sink area and there were tons of rat beds with mold and food. WOW!
This is the New updated kitchen!!! We LOVE it! We did all the work ourselves. It took us right about 1 month to tear apart, put back together and do some little details. There are still a few details that we are still working on, like the moldings, and the crown on the top of the cabinets. There is now a ton of usable working spaces in this kitchen. I find myself thinking all day at work what I want to make that night when I get home. We just have to sit sometimes and just stare at everything that we have accomplished in there since August. WOW is all to be said. OHHHH and we are still together! That is an accomplishment in itself when you have that much pressure and strain on a new marriage. (-:

It...looks.... AWESOME!!! I still can't believe you guys did all that work yourselves. That just shows that you guys can do anything together, especially from the get-go of your marriage. Seriously, your house looks great and Dean and I are impressed.
